Pacha Kadamutta Kizhi / Quail egg sack

This is a healthy steamed snack, with rice flour, Quail (kada) eggs filled with a simple and light green masala filling. The masala is made of two main ingredients. The highlight of this non fried snack is its simple green masala with very little oil for sautéing the masala. All together it’s perfect starter to break the fasting.

Ingredients

Quail (Kada) eggs – 8
Boil and remove the shell of eggs
Spring onion (cut the leafy part of the spring onion into threads)- 8 nos

Ingredients & Method For Dough

Rice flour – 1 cup
Pepper Powder – 1 tsp
Garam masala – ½ tsp
White part of the spring onion – 6 tsp (finely chopped)
Salt
Mix all this together and if required just sprinkle water and make it into a smooth dough.

Ingredients & Method For Masala

Spring Onion – 4
Green Chilly – 2
Fenugreek – ¼ tsp
Oil – 1 tsp
Salt

Blend spring onion and green chilly to a smooth paste.
Heat oil in a pan and add fenugreek and once it splutters, add the spring onion, chilly-paste.
Once the water evaporates and the masala starts thickening, add salt and mix well and once it becomes thick, turn off the heat and allow it to cool.

Method

Make small balls of dough and flatten it to make a small cup shape.
Into this put the green masala and the boiled eggs.
Then make it like a sack bag and tie the slit spring onion thread ground it’s neck.
Boil water in a steamer (I used bamboo steamer, natural and healthy) and steam cook the little snack dough for 8 to 10 mints.
Serve hot or cold… Both taste yummm…
